Hare Crosses the Ocean

$220.00

A rabbit seems to leap across the waves in mid-air against an indigo background. This image is a contemporary rendition of a story documented in Japan’s oldest historical book, the Kojiki, where a hare crosses the ocean from one island to another by leaping across the backs of sharks. The feature image, a result of the stencil dye resist process known as katazome, is outlined by hand with Japanese sashiko stitching. A lovely floral cotton jacquard print provides a lively border, sewn to the image by machine. Machine-quilted to hold the composition together. Sleeve on the back for easy display.

Size: 15.5” Ht. x 18” W.
