Amulet Day 98/100

Katazome Feather. This is one of my very favorite pieces of fabric, a simple, rough weave spun cotton stencil dye rice paste resist that has been worn and worn and used and used until it births its own wabi sabi essence—which only time and birth living and respectful use can produce. The term wabi sabi is very overused today. It points to a value of something that has survived despite the odds, and also the changes in the object that make it more unexpectedly beautiful than the original due to its wear and age (like we imagine for human beings). I wish you could touch this fabric and feel the vibration. On the other hand, claiming such quiet power on its own, I had a devil of a time figuring out the adornment…but neither did I want to leave it plain. I found a washed and weathered shell (I used to collect this shape only and referred to them as wing nuts) that had similar color tones and finally one button that matched the blue. Searched the drawers one more time to find some loose pearls waiting to be restrung and added a row of sashiko for rhythm.
