Amulet Day 90/100

Homage to Yuwa Co. Not only did this company bring us the designs Keiko Goke (who is still going “gang busters” selling out everything she designs after 20-some years), but before that they introduced Japanese fabric to the USA quilt world via Naomi Itaya, whose designs were based on 18th Century chirimen silk kimono fabric. And within her collection, for example, was a fabric that had divided sections of different patterns which at first glance were seemingly not related…but it worked! Yes, Japan was the first to do this for quilters! And they used coordinated color groups that were a little strange to our eyes, so it set us to thinking about that as well. The fabric featured here is one of those. P. S. The Japanese producers put these designs on a much higher grade cotton than we were accustomed to (think: men’s shirting) which felt like silk, held the color, and quilted like butter by hand. A happy mini wooden crab comb adorns this amulet.
