Iris: Hanashōbu はなしようぶ A few species of iris in Japan, but these little ones that grow near water’s edge are most prevalent in historical context and are found on all forms of art from kimono to lacquer, and porcelains to painted screens, etc. They bloom in early summer. A little meandering sashiko on the blue side and a brass dragonfly accompany the scene. This tiny focal fabric piece was cut from a trio Geisha panel print by Kona Bay that became really popular after 2000, season after season.
