As a founding member of the Empire Quilters, I am very happy to return as a vendor to my first “home” guild and the town where QETJ began—and ran for 20+ years. This year, there will be an unprecedented exhibit of 650 RED/WHITE quilts on display at the Armory during the same weekend as the Empire show. It is FREE to the public and sponsored by the Museum of American Folk Art. If you’re from central PA and are interested in a one-day bus trip to New York City on March 27th, email me ASAP. Japan Tour 2011
Quilters’ Express to Japan’s 20th Textile Tour!
November 2011 (exact dates TBA by March 1)
Visiting 4 Cities in 10 days:
“Tokyo, Yokohama, Arimatsu & Kyoto”
Highlights include: The Yokohama Quilt Festival, Kimono Museum, Shibori Center, Dyers’ Studios PLUS fabulous Gardens & Temples in Kyoto
Textile tours to Japan are Susan’s specialty, born of 40 years experience. The itinerary for her 20th tour to Japan presents an overview of both quilting and fabric in Japan interspersed with culturally relevant sightseeing, and this time, set against the backdrop of the Japanese red-mapled landscape. We begin in Tokyo with a little “Old Edo” sightseeing and fabric shopping. Then its down to Yokohama for a full day at the quilt show where you’ll get a very good look at traditional quiltmaking in Japan—and likely purchase a few treasures! On the way to Kyoto, we’ll make two stops: first at the kimono museum of Ichiku Kubota and then at the original Shibori (Tie-Dye) Center along the old Tokaido Road. The last three days are devoted to Kyoto: we’ll meet two special Japanese dyers and walk around famous temple grounds and gardens. There is a free time in both Tokyo and Kyoto for your personal exploration, but we can also help you extend your stay in Japan beyond the tour dates. And you’ll still arrive back home in time for Thanksgiving!
